Montana Film Explores MMA, Trauma, and Recovery
If you like MMA, horses, or just movies about people who get their lives wrecked and then try and pick themselves back up, well... you’re gonna want to watch this one.
Wild Animal is a new independent film that was filmed right here in Montana. A film that has taken over seven years to produce. It features Lennon “Bombshell” Mackenna, a female MMA fighter on the brink of losing everything after one too many concussions. She used to be on the pro circuit. Now she’s scrapping for a living in smoker fights all across Montana and even starting up an OnlyFans account.
After she suffers a traumatic brain injury and gets arrested, she ends up at an equine therapy program. Which might sound like a punchline, but the problem isn’t the horses, it’s her. But that’s kind of the point. Dealing with animals forces her to confront her own wreckage. And then, just when she’s catching her breath? One last chance inside the cage threatens to blow it all up again.
The story doesn’t sugarcoat anything. Addiction, trauma, anxiety, it’s all in there. But what gives it an extra gut punch is seeing a female fighter fight her way through it. It looks raw, ugly, and weirdly hopeful. Think Million Dollar Baby by way of Yellowstone, with a dash of Sean O’Malley, Montana’s hometown hero who showed the world you don’t need to fit the mold to be the greatest.
The film is Montana tough: rough around the edges, brutally honest, and way stronger than you think.
