The National Weather service recently called a "Tripple dip" for the third year of La Nina winters. The Montana Winter begins this year on Tuesday, December 21st, 2022. The Winter Solstice is the longest night of the year and the shortest day of the year. Here is a look at Montana’s Winter Weather according to the Farmers' Almanac!

Montana is part of the North Central group of states as far as the almanac's predictions are concerned. We are lumped in along with Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming. Snow lovers will be happy in the North Central States as they will see a fair share of storminess during the winter season, which should mean plenty of snow for winter enthusiasts to enjoy (maybe even in time for a white Christmas?)

The big takeaway for our winter season forecast is that frigid temperatures should flow into many areas nationwide—especially in the North Central region, where we Montanans will certainly be shaking and shivering! ENOUGH HEDGING ALREADY!

The 2023 Old Farmer’s Almanac is calling for a winter that will divide the country with one half dealing with bone-chilling cold and loads of snow, while the other half may feel like winter never really arrives. Missoula falls in the latter category with a warmer winter on tap, but that doesn’t mean it will be dry! Snowstorms throughout the season are likely beginning in mid-November. Remember "tripple-dip" La Nina?
