Ah BIG SKY COUNTRY! It is a place we call home, and many other people are looking to call home. Since the start of the pandemic, we have seen real estate get eaten up by "COVID refugees." People looking for a less densely populated area to raise their families. Outside of Wyoming, Montana has got to be one of the least densely populated states in the country.

In fact...Montana has only 7 people per square mile. Compare that to California which is 253 people per square mile. YUCK! No wonder people are looking to spread out a little. Let's just hope they do their research before packing the family up in the U-Haul and making their way to the Treasure State.

The website roadsnacks.net crunched the numbers on what the worst places to live in Montana were for the year 2024. They went off of specific data for each of the 32 cities in the study.

According to their data, the town of Polson claims the top spot as "The Worst Place to Live in Montana."

Squint and the name “Polson” looks a lot like “poison.” That could adequately describe the town’s economy, which supports a median income of just $48,866 and an unemployment rate of 6.4%. This leaves nearly 1 in 5 residents to struggle below the poverty line.

The town of Stevensville is not far behind, coming in at #3 in the worst places to live in Montana list.

The community’s unemployment rate comes in at a respectable 4.9%. But the available jobs don’t pay very well, with a median income of just $39,836. The result? About one in four residents has to make due with sub-poverty conditions.
