Saturday, November 19th at the Hilton Garden Inn is the 2nd annual Zootown Throwdown, a boxing event by Missoula Boxing Club. It will have 15-20 bouts depending on if the boxers make weight, according to Missoula Boxing Club's press release. The number of bouts will also depend on if the weather makes sense for boxers are able to travel here, which is notable because the event will feature boxers from Canada, Oregon, Washington, Utah and Idaho as well as local boxers, according to Missoula Boxing Club on Instagram. Tickets are $16 for adults until November 11th, $25 at the door, for youth ages 8-18 tickets are $15, 0-7 get in free, click here for tickets.

Missoula Boxing Club's website says the club is free for kids ages 9-19 on the condition that the kids "work on homework before gloving up at the gym." USA Boxing, the national governing body for boxing, has a Missoula Boxing Club member ranked in the top 10 in the junior men's 176+ lbs division. But Missoula Boxing Club doesn't just teach kids who want to compete, for example they recently taught techniques to girls scouts which is both adorable and empowering.

I love that this is an option for Missoula kids. Martial arts like boxing may appeal to kids who aren't interested in other sports, that was my experience growing up. It's also great that training is conditional depending on if homework is done, giving kids more incentive to study. Here's a promotional video Missoula Boxing Club released on Youtube:
