I swear the people are running out of things to complain about. Gun violence and gun control has been a topic all over the news recently, but residents in Boulder Colorado are outraged by a neighborhood elk being euthanized by a police officer.

I have always dreamnt of a white elk as being a mythical creature, like the Indians do with white buffalo. My dad has told stories of seeing an albino elk while scouting in the Lewis and Clark National Forest. I did not know that there is an actual elk that is bred to be white.

It has always been clear to me, that when the snow starts to fly, the elk start to appear. In my years of chasing after those damn critters, I have always had a better chance at bagging an elk after snow falls. Fingers crossed this winter storm might up my odds this weekend.

The first full week of open rifle season has passed and harvests for both mule deer and white-tailed deer are up 23% compared to last year. Elk harvests, on the other hand, are down by nearly the same amount. Opening weekend of General Hunting season in Montana was a let down for me. I was unable to accomplish much due to other obligations. For me, missing opening day is sacrilegious. I was even more disappointed to find out that just about everyone in my hunting circle punched a tag this last weekend.
