$1.1 Million Sleepy Inn Motel Purchase Approved by City Council
After a debate that went deep into the night on Monday, the Missoula City Council approved the city’s purchase of the Sleepy Inn Motel, for the purpose of turning the building into what is called a ‘con-congregate’ facility to ‘quarantine and isolate’ COVID 19 patients.
There was considerable debate about the purchase price of the building at $1.1 million, as well as a recent health department report that detailed the filthy and rundown condition of the motel.
It was remarked by health department and emergency management officials that federal monies could be available to remediate the building and make it fit for the intended purpose.
There was a vote to table the motion to purchase the building which was defeated by a 7-5 vote, and the purchase was then approved by a 9-3 vote.
