Did Bobcat Fans Stress Nashville’s Beer Supply?
As a University of Montana Grizzlies fan, I feel qualified to talk about this for one simple reason. I also like beer. A LOT. So when the internet began buzzing about whether Montana State Bobcats fans may have partied a little too hard in Nashville during FCS National Championship week, it didn’t seem completely out of the realm of possibility.
The rumor goes like this. Thousands of Bobcat fans traveled south, invaded Lower Broadway honky tonk bars, and drank in certain bars where beer supplies were reportedly pushed to the limit. Not officially confirmed. Not backed by local news. But a story floating around the internet with an energy so strong that it makes you stop and think, yeah, I could see that.
Why This Rumor Has Legs
A story like this doesn’t materialize out of nowhere. Montana fans have a reputation. So do the Dakotas. For years, championship host cities such as Frisco, Texas, have joked about being “drunk dry” when northern fans from FCS schools arrive. It has entered folklore.
What is actually happening in Nashville is a huge Bobcat presence. Bars are packed wall to wall. Chants echoing on the streets. Drink specials designed for the Montana State faithful. Places like Hank’s Boogie Bar and Barstool Nashville leaned hard into it. Making them the self-proclaimed MSU bars.
No one has complained that they were running out of beer. But no one appears shocked that the question is out there.
The Redbirds Experience
Then there’s the Illinois State Redbirds. They didn’t cover nearly as many miles. They arrived like a normal fanbase. Likely grabbed a drink or two, scoped out the scene, and quietly wondered how people from Montana were still upright after flying nearly four hours.
Montana Energy Is Montana Energy
There’s no real animosity here from a Griz fan perspective. If anything, it’s a little pride mixed with a chuckle. Montana fans travel well. We show up loud. We treat road trips like events. That doesn’t change, whether the colors are maroon or blue.
Did Bobcat fans actually drink Nashville dry of beer? Clearly, that isn't the case.
But did they give a city famously rowdy for partying a brief moment of pause over whether it had planned their beer order? They clearly don't know how much Montanans like a good barley pop.
As much as I don't like giving MSU fans much credit. Let me say. Bravo!
