A school in Arkansas recently released a letter stating that there were going to be some changes in the upcoming school year. The changes focus on cell phone use in schools.

My question is, should Montana schools do this as well? There are lots of comments and feedback regarding the Arkansas school's new rules.

As a parent of a high school student, I can see both sides of this. I have seen the bullying, the TikToks being made while in class, and other social media issues when it comes to having a phone in school.

I also know teachers and have seen the videos of teachers taking advantage of phone use in class to post videos of activities on social platforms as a teaching tool for other teachers and to just be a part of the social media trend that has taken over.

However, in the event that some emergency occurs, will not having phones available make matters worse? Not being able to locate the incident step by step, not being able to reach your child, or not being able to call for help when needed?

People are saying, "we never had phones in class when I was growing up." Yes, for some that is true, but they also didn't have the social platforms and violence happening in schools like we are seeing now.

So what do you think? Is this something that Montana could put into place and have a successful turnout? I'm just not so sure if there is an answer that will please everyone.
