FDA Issues Recall for MadeGood Granola Bars Sold in Montana
Hey, Missoula hippies, Bozeman brunchers, and all those in between. If you have a few Madegood granola bars in your hiking pack, you might want to check your stash before you take another bite. Why? Because some of those bars are packing a bit more crunch than they should.
Riverside Natural Foods Inc. just announced a recall of more than 2.4 million cases of MadeGood granola bars for the “potential presence of metal.” Yep, you heard that correctly, metal.
What’s the Deal?
The recall includes several flavors, such as Chocolate Chip, Mixed Berry, and Strawberry, made between January and November 2024. According to the F.D.A., this is a Class II recall, meaning that there is a risk, but you’ll just have an “ouch” instead of an “oh no!”
How Did This Happen?
Apparently, during the manufacturing process, some small brush bristles joined the granola party. To date, there have been seven complaints but no injuries. The company says it has already remedied the situation, so future bars should be bristle-free.
What Should You Do?
Well, first things first. DONT PANIC. Check your stash of granola bars and see if any of them have affected best-by dates and UPCs (you can see the full list on the USDA website). If you have any recalled bars, take them back to the place they were purchased for a full refund.
Where Were These Sold?
Pretty much everywhere. At one point, these bars were sold at Target, Whole Foods in Bozeman, and even Amazon. So if you shop at any of those stores, check the granola bars before devouring one.
Final Thoughts
We know that Montanans love their granola, it’s pretty much a food group in Missoula. But nobody signed up for a crunchy metal surprise in their snack. Double-check your bars, cash your refund, and munch on safely during your next hike.
