Free Blockbuster Boxes Spotted in Montana More Needed in Missoula
If you are a child of the '70s, '80s, '90s, or even a "boomer," I want you to close your eyes and picture a typical Friday night during the latter part of the century. A night spent with your friends or family would typically consist of a trip to the video store. Just the trip to the store itself was a highlight of your evening. You would meticulously search for new releases or "must watch" classic movies to entertain you over the weekend. Remember that feeling of joy when you discovered that the popular new release was in stock? When you moved the empty box, and found the VHS tape or DVD behind it? It was a RUSH. Sadly those days have gone. And with them, so have the movie rental stores.
Free Blockbuster is a movement sweeping the nation.
This underground movement aims to bring that feeling of picking out a movie back to communities around the country by offering up a collection of movies to choose from, FOR FREE.
But, how does Free Blockbuster work?
According to freeblockbuster.org
A Free Blockbuster is a place where people can leave movies so other people can borrow them. Like those Little Free Libraries where you can take or leave a book, but for VHS tapes and DVDs (and anything else you want to share with your neighbors).
Many people involved in the underground movement are simply refurbishing old newspaper vending machines and turning them into a tiny Blockbuster video store in their neighborhood. Using the "leave a movie, take a movie" honor system, people never know what kind of movie they might find.
Only 1 Free Blockbuster location has been spotted in Montana. According to the Free Blockbuster website, it is located on North Rodney Street in Helena. Unfortunately, no boxes have been spotted in Missoula. But that can easily change.
Let's spread the Free Blockbuster movement all over Montana.
Simply make your own box. Use those old VHS and DVDs you got packed in storage. And then tell all of your friends and neighbors. Also, don't forget to share the box location with the Free Blockbuster website.
Don't want to build your own box? You can purchase one from the Free Blockbuster website, with free shipping included.
