Last night (May 4), Ghost kicked off their North American tour with an intimate show at The Roxy in Hollywood. While we're still awaiting the release of the new record, Prequelle, the band, now fronted by Cardinal Copia, debuted two new songs, "Danse Macabre" and "Faith."

Until now, fans had only heard the lead single, "Rats"; check out "Danse Macabre" above. The song leans heavily in the pop realm with an arena beat driving the melodic chord progression. Ghost play with an anthemic formula, building up the energy in the chorus until it explodes into a bubblegum chorus. "Faith," however (video below), is among Ghost's heavier cuts, opening with sinister spotlight twin leads which give way to strongarmed rhythms.

"When we made 'Square Hammer,' we needed a big opening track. It was inspired by various explosive opening tracks and records," Tobias Forge told Loudwire of "Rats" in a recent interview. "Specifically, when I was a kid, there was a concert called the Moscow Peace Festival. It was broadcast on TV. It's one of those moments that I remember so clearly, I was eight years old. Ozzy Osbourne opened with 'I Don't Know,' and it's such a fucking great opening track. This was in front of like 80,000 people, who went nuts. I wanted to have that feel with 'Rats.' It's supposed to feel like that sort of opening track. A song that could get 80,000 people to jump. If you ever want to play bigger places, you need to have records that sound like you're playing in big places."

Ghost's headlining U.S. tour is underway and will come to an end on June 1, the day the album is set for release. Head here for a list of all upcoming stops. And if you're looking for any incarnation of Papa Emeritus, you can find their embalmed bodies out on the road on this trek.
