The Hamilton community will enjoy fireworks displays on two separate days this year to celebrate Independence Day.

The first one is Friday, June 30, north of the Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital at Sapphire Lutheran Homes. The other will be the annual 4th of July display at the Ravalli County Fairgrounds.

Sapphire Lutheran Homes is kicking off their free summer concert series Friday with the bluegrass and folk music group Tincup. The series continues every Friday in July.

The chef at Sapphire is cooking up a barbeque at 6 p.m. which costs $7 per person. The concert, starting at 7 p.m. is free.

After the music stops and later, when it gets dark, the fireworks will light up the sky by the "large lawn" of Sapphire.

Next Tuesday evening, July 4th, at dusk, the annual City of Hamilton Fireworks display will blast off at the Ravalli County Fairgrounds. The show is being sponsored by the city, along with 25 local businesses. It's a free show, with seating available at the grandstands, according to Cynthia Fleming in a City of Hamilton news release.

Steve Boshae of Cow Palace Fireworks (between K-Mart and Albertsons in Hamilton) is organizing both shows again this year. Last week, he had a fundraising display at Hamilton High School for the speech and debate team.

By the way, Hamilton has rules about personal fireworks.

  • Fireworks may discharged between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. from June 24 to July 3.
  • Fireworks are allowed between 10 a.m. July 4 until 1 a.m. July 5th.
  • Fireworks are not allowed in the Central Business District.
