Missoula Crime Report: Homicide and Officer-Involved Shooting

A lockdown at Hellgate High School, an officer involved shooting, and a deliberate homicide all occurred this week in Missoula. County Attorney Kirsten Pabst said it was a really challenging week for our local law enforcement.

“We charged 18 new criminal complaints, which is twice what we charged last week,” Pabst said. “Six of those involved allegations of crimes against persons. There were five property crimes and they were mostly burglaries. There were four endangerment crimes, including more chases. There were two drug cases and one administrative crime that was a fugitive from justice. In that case, the defendant has warrants out of Nevada for arson and burglary. Nevada is planning on extraditing him.”

According to Pabst, there were also a handful of crimes against persons.

“We charged a stalking case and a privacy and communications case that involved allegations of blackmailing someone with private photos of an ex-partner,” Pabst said. “We charged an assault with a weapon that involved two counts. In that case, the defendant allegedly pulled a knife and threatened to stab his sibling. When officers found him, he was allegedly in possession of a meth pipe and admitted he had not slept in three days when the incident occurred.”

They also charged a strangulation case, an aggravated burglary case, and a partner or family member assault third offense.

Pabst said her office was also reviewing a deliberate homicide case that occurred early Friday morning.

“A child called 911 to report that his father was choking his mother,” Pabst said. “Sheriff’s Office deputies responded quickly and the defendant attempted to flee. They discovered the victim inside and unresponsive. She was transported to the hospital, but did not survive. The defendant is in custody and we will file charges later today as this investigation unfolds.”
