Missoula’s Go-To Beer Just Ended Up In Soup
Missoula has a great reputation for taking the ordinary and making it a personality trait. Coffee. Flannel. Having a bike, or bikes, you never ride. And yes, beer.
Which means that when a national brand quietly gets its hands on Missoula’s favorite beer and tosses it into a can of soup, it deserves its proper moment.

Well, Campbell’s has just introduced two more Chunky soups using Pabst Blue Ribbon. One is a chili. The other is a beer cheese soup with potatoes and chorizo. This is not a drill. This is real life. And it’s happening right now.
This Is So On Brand For Missoula
PBR isn’t just a beer here. It’s a background character. It makes an appearance at river takeouts. It thrives in coolers at backyard shows. It’s the beer you reach for when you just don’t want to do any heavy lifting.
Which is why it’s ideal for soup.

Campbell’s didn’t get fancy with this one. They didn’t overthink it. They took a beer that was already made for cold and comfort, and they dropped it directly into something you would eat when the snow is blowing sideways.
A Soup You Can Eat In Your Hoodie
The chili version leans hearty. The beer cheese soup leans all the way into comfort food. Potatoes. Chorizo. Thick enough to chew, instead of slurping.
This is a shovel-and-eat kind of soup. Or after a ski day. Or when you get home after a long night of drinking PBR.
Oh, and yes, that beer tastes better knowing that it’s in there.
Missoula Has Been Preparing For This Moment
Missoula is known for buying PBR in massive quantities at Orange Street Food Farm. We’re talking pallet energy. Commitment. A town that spots a 24 pack and says MORE.
So the idea that this same beer is now turning up in Campbell’s Chunky feels less like a novelty and more like destiny.
The Verdict
Is it absurd to feel local pride about a soup release? Yes.
Is it also kind of perfect? Also yes.
We have heard of sightings of the new PBR soup at Walmart and Albertsons in Missoula. No word if it has hit the shelves at Orange Street Food Farm.
