Man, I miss video stores.

I've always been a big proponent of physical media, to the point where I keep a spreadsheet of my ever-growing Blu-Ray collection so I don't accidentally buy something I've already got (currently at 751 titles and counting!). It's just nice to have something tangible that you can hold in your hand or display on a shelf - but in the age of streaming, less and less people are seeing the value in it.

Video rental stores haven't been mega-popular in a long time, but I still have fond memories of heading to Video Update when I was a kid and picking something out with the family. And while they may be rare, you can still find the occasional video rental store out there in the wild.

Including, at least until now, in Great Falls, which has been the home of Mike's Movies & More for almost twelve years. But now, Mike has decided that it's time to retire.

Mike's Movies & More Will Close On April 25th

Yes, this staple of the community and beloved spot for its customers will unfortunately be shutting down. The announcement was made on Facebook this week.

There was an outpouring of love in the comments of the post, and KRTV got to talk to Mike about the decision behind the closure.

Mike plans to sell most of his inventory and whatever doesn't sell, he'll likely keep. As a fellow DVD hoarder, I say - Amen, brother.

Luckily, it's not all bad on the video front: here in Missoula, FunTrade recently reopened in a new location on the Hip Strip! Find the story right here.
