No More Easy Flights! Allegiant Drops Glacier Park Route
Allegiant Airlines is ghosting us. Starting May 11th, they are scrapping direct flights from Los Angeles to Glacier Park International Airport and Billings. That means no more breezy hops from sunny California to Big Sky Country. Instead, it’s layovers, long drives and, let’s face it, wondering what we’ve done to deserve airport Chili’s again.
Wait, What? Why?!
True to budget airline ideals, Allegiant is all about modifying routes based on demand. In short, if a flight isn’t pulling its weight, it’s outta there. The airline hasn’t abandoned the idea of bringing it back at some point, but for now, this route is going into early retirement.
So what’s a Montana traveler to do?
New (Not Quite So Convenient) Ways to Travel
Since a direct flight is no longer an option, here are some creative ideas for making it work:
The Layover Life: Although airlines such as United still fly from L.A. to Glacier, you will have to stop off in either Denver or Seattle. Upside? More opportunities to accumulate frequent flyer miles. Downside? More opportunities for flight delays and sketchy airport sushi.
Other airports nearby: You could fly into Missoula or Spokane and make a road trip of it. Pro: Beautiful drive. Con: LONG DRIVE
All the Way Road Trip: If you have time (and a reliable playlist), why not drive? LA to Glacier is around 1,300 miles, so prepare for gas station snacks, truck stop coffee, the need to pee every 50 miles, and at least one minor existential crisis somewhere in Idaho.
