It's going to be a hot Labor Day weekend home opener at 1 pm when the Griz welcome the Northwestern State Demons to battle at Washington Grizzly stadium. It might be the Hottest Game EVER as far as the weather goes. KGVO's Peter Christian spoke with NWS meteorologist Jeff Kitzmiller who told us “There has never been a 100-degree day on September 3rd, if it did that would almost be certain to be a record” “The hottest was 98 degrees in 1988” The Missoula forecast calls for a high of 100.

This is the "Maroon Out" Game

Wear your maroon Griz gear, which includes face paint. Hopefully the non-running sweat-resistant grease paint! Montanans are a hardy bunch, Griz fans specifically have been known to strip to shorts in sub-zero temps wearing only painted letters in team support. With a 120-degree swing, this weekend we could see the maroon paint used for both team spirit and more practical reasons.

So you plan to tailgate at the stadium?

Be mindful of that possible 100-degree forecast, and while you take in the festivities, keep the water handy-stay hydrated while enjoying those adult beverages responsibly. Oh, we also have a Fire Weather Watch in effect, the combination of gusty winds, low humidity, and an unstable atmosphere will potentially result in critical fire weather conditions Saturday afternoon and evening. Bring in West winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts around 30 to 40 mph. Of course, that affects not only the game, but the entire area, so please be careful with those campfires and BBQs. Go Griz!
