Ghillie Suit Prank Sparks Cryptid Buzz in Bighorns
In Wyoming’s Bighorn National Forest, folks near the Bighorn National Forest had a weird, fascinating creature on their hands for a short little while. A large, swampy figure with antlers. Part moose, part mystery. Some began to whisper the name: Swamp Moose.
But as Cowboy State Daily notes, it wasn’t some cryptid. It was an 8-year-old kid in a ghillie suit with a moose antler.
That’s it. A pocket prankster with a fancy imagination and slightly too much time to fill. And honestly? That kid’s going places.
The Thought Crosses My Mind Though...
Montana has plenty of woods, swamps, and late-night campfire stories to call its own. If Wyoming can have a Swamp Moose, then there’s got to be something just as crazy lingering in our woods too?
Perhaps you’ve heard tales like these…
The Foghorn Elk – Legend claims they can be found near the Missouri River Breaks on foggy mornings. Huge rack. Echoes like a freight train. Most likely just an old bull who likes to make an entrance.
The Judith Gap Jackrabbit – No antlers on this one, but the thing’s the size of a border collie and moves like it knows it's being watched.
The Bitterroot Creeper – Observed usually at dawn near trailheads. Stinks like old jerky and stale beer. Could just be some guy named Dale.
Not all of us call them cryptids. Sometimes they’re simply that weird thing someone saw once and never forgot. And yeah, most of the time it’s a bear in poor light or a busted trail cam with water damage. But hey, that’s part of the fun.
Swamp Moose: It’s a Fraud, But It Makes You Laugh
Sure, it’s easy to roll your eyes at yet another Bigfoot-type story, but there’s something right about a kid dressing as a moose to scare hikers. Not malicious. Just good old “let’s see what happens.”

And honestly, it brings back those old Montana campfire stories, where the story didn’t have to be true to be passed around the fire. It only needed to be good fun.
So hats off to that kid up in the Bighorns. And to Montana’s future pranksters? Topping the Swamp Moose? You’d better be creative. Perhaps it's best to avoid pulling any pranks involving antlers during hunting season.
