The Missoula County Sheriff and Coroner T.J. McDermott has released the names of the two young men who were killed in a two-vehicle collision on Highway 200 just east of Missoula on Sunday afternoon.

Seeley Lake residents Isaac Morse, 17 and Damien Miller, 18 were both killed in the crash.

Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Alex Hiday was the investigating officer at the scene and described what happened.

“The crash happened at mile marker four on Montana 200,” said Trooper Hiday. “It was a two vehicle head on crash. A red sedan was traveling eastbound on Montana 200 and crossed the centerline of the roadway while negotiating a right hand curve. The red sedan crashed head on into a Dodge pickup traveling westbound and they crashed in the westbound lane.”

Hiday provided more details of the crash.

“Two occupants in the red sedan were pronounced deceased on scene, while the third occupant needed to be extricated along with the two decedents from the red sedan,” he said. “The Dodge pickup driver was injured but was able to stand up and asked us to assist the people in the red sedan first.”

Trooper Hiday said the road was slick at the time of the crash.

“It was daylight hours light snowfall and there was ice on the roadway,” he said. “So the roads were slick at the time of the crash and I believe that speed, inexperienced driving and the road conditions are all factors. All three individuals in the red sedan were anywhere from 16 to 18 years old and the female driver of the pickup truck was 40 years old.”

Hiday said the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
