Where to Find the Best Hot Dog in Missoula

Today is NATIONAL HOT DOG DAY! A day where you need no excuse to enjoy an American classic.

These types of sausages were culturally imported from Germany and became popular in the United States. It became a working-class street food in the U.S., sold at stands and carts. Although particularly connected with New York City and its cuisine, the hot dog eventually became ubiquitous throughout the US during the 20th century.

Today, you can find hot dogs at just about every convenience store you enter. But, you never can tell how long the dogs have been rolling along on the heat roller. Plus, the condiments can sometimes be hit or miss. Still, there is something about being super hungry and crushing a hot dog from a gas station that is special.

Where can you get a gourmet hot dog in Missoula?

There are a couple of great food trucks in town that hook up some awesome dogs. If you ever get a chance to grab a bite at them, I highly recommend it. Our pal Fred from the Wild Weenie food truck always dished out some awesome hot dogs. You can also keep an eye out for the Covered Wagon Hot Dog truck around town and at Caras Park.

What if I cannot find a food truck that serves hot dogs?

Even though we do not have a dedicated hot dog restaurant in Missoula. There are still some great fast food options that never disappoint.

Five Guys - They have an awesome dog that you can customize and add all the topping you want.
Freddy's Frozen Custard and Steakburgers - Here you can get a regular hot dog or a chili cheese dog. What makes these special though, is the bun/roll it is served on. Super yum.
A&W - This is one spot where I always find myself ordering a hotdog... Even if I didn't plan on it. A&W offers 3 types of dogs. (The Classic, The Coney Dog *chili*, or the Coney Cheese Dog *chili cheese*)
Dairy Queen - I still remember the first time I had a DQ hot dog. It was something about the simplicity of it, coupled with a Dilly Bar, that was heaven in your mouth.
