It sounds like a scene from Norway in the '90s, but no, a woman reportedly set fire to two church buildings of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Orem, Utah. "Satan Lives" was also written on the door jam in permanent marker, reports the Daily Herald.

Jillian Nicole Robinson, aged 18, caused "at least" $600,000 damage to the pair of church buildings, per a post on the Orem Police Department Facebook page (seen below). She has been arrested on suspicion of arson (a second-degree felony) and burglary (a third-degree felony) and is being investigated for criminal mischief and possession of burglary tools. The latter charges are both class B misdemeanors.

It is believed that the fires were started in the early hours of Friday morning (March 30) and the Orem Police Department responded to reports of a fire inside a church at roughly 1:50AM. Using fire extinguishers, they were able to put out the small fires, though the damage left behind was significant.

"Several officers started checking other churches in the area and while doing so saw a suspicious female lurking about. When they talked to her they discovered a bottle in her back pack that smelled like gas #aclue, a lighter, a power drill, a sharpie and other items that lead us to believe this young lady was our culprit," read part of the post, which was peppered with humorous anecdotes. "When we talked to her she said, 'She didn't start the fire' #theresasongaboutthat but because of Sergeant Arnoldson and company being the highly trained law enforcement officials they are, they determined that was a lie."

"I was angry and all I wanted to do was set a small fire and it got out of control. I fled the scene and didn’t look back. I felt like playing with fire because of my crazy life at home. This was not a hate crime," is what Robinson reportedly wrote on her statement (via the Daily Herald).

Robinson is currently being held at the Utah County Jail on $20,000 bond.
