Florence + the Machine to Replace Foo Fighters as Glastonbury Headliners
Florence + the Machine will replace Foo Fighters as headliners of this month's Glastonbury Festival, organizers announced this morning (June 17). Foo Fighters were forced to drop out after Dave Grohl sustained fell off the stage during a concert in Sweden last week and broke his leg.
Glastonbury organizer Emily Eavis mentioned yesterday she had a contingency plan in place and talked up Florence Welch with enthusiasm. "Every time she has played here she has done something spectacular, and we always knew she would headline the Pyramid stage one day," Eavis told the Guardian. "I’m delighted she is going to step up to it – she’s going to smash it!”
Florence + the Machine had already been booked to appear at Glastonbury on Friday, playing before the Foo Fighters' set. The band released their third full-length album, How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful, last week, and it's currently sitting at the number one slot on Billboard's Album chart.
The Somerset, UK festival takes place June 25 through 29. Kanye West headlines Saturday and rock legends the Who close out the festival as Sunday headliners.
As for Grohl, he released a lengthy statement about his injury and the Foos were forced to cancel their remaining U.K. and European tour dates.
