The Ravalli American Legion Post 47 is adding three ceremonies to the May 28 Memorial Day schedule Monday morning in the Bitterroot Valley. Post Commander Ruth Cook said the Legion and the Marine Corps League will have a Military Honors Ceremony at at 8 a.m. at the World War I Doughboy statue at the lawn of the Ravalli County Museum. There, a wreath will be placed at the statue, a 21-gun salute will be in three volleys by the Marine Corp League and the playing of "Taps" will be on the Legion bugle.

Then, the next ceremony will be at 8:25 a.m. at the West Main Bridge over the Bitterroot River. A wreath will be sent down the river to honor those lost at sea. Again, a three-volley rifle salute and Taps. The group will then have the third ceremony at the G.A.R. memorial in the Riverview Cemetery, with the wreath placement, rifle salute and Taps. Following the trio of honors ceremonies, the Post members and Marine Corps League will march in the Corvallis Post 91 Memorial Day Parade, which starts at 10 a.m.

American Legion Post 47 is Hamilton's post. Ahead of Memorial Day, post members will be marking the military graves at the Riverview Cemetery. Saturday, May 26, over a thousand flags and crosses will be marking the veterans' gravesites. Commander Cook said that volunteers are welcome to help. They will be getting the crosses prepared at 9 a.m. Saturday morning at the Post, which is across from the Ravalli County Courthouse on South 2nd Street.
