After autopsies performed in Missoula, The Montana Department of Criminal Investigations has concluded that the two dead bodies found in a rural home in Superior were the result of a murder-suicide.

85-year-old John Lane's body was discovered at about 12:15 on Wednesday at his home on 3383 Southside Drive. Investigators believe Lane died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

John Lane's wife, 87-year-old Emma Lane's body was found about a half-hour earlier, with a single gunshot wound apparently from the same weapon that took John's life.

On Wednesday,  Emma Lane's body was found after a neighbor checked-in on the residence at the request of an out-of-state relative of the Lanes that could not make contact. It is unclear when the deaths occurred.

Agents from the Montana Department of Justice's Department of Criminal Investigation and Deputies from the Mineral County Sheriff's Office are continuing to investigate.
