When Slipknot reveal a new set of masks, the entire metal world stops to take notice. At the first ever Sonic Temple Festival in Columbus, Ohio, we asked musicians to react to Slipknot’s We Are Not Your Kind-era masks, and the responses were rich.

Despite personal favorites and conceptual theories, the reaction to Slipknot’s new masks was 100-percent positive from the bands at the fest. “They’re all amazingly handsome fellas and they never take a bad photo,” Zakk Wylde said before declaring Craig Jones’ mask as his personal favorite.

When it comes to the creepiest new mask, Sid Wilson was able to disturb our group of rockers the most. “The regular face… why is that the creepiest?” Killswitch Engage vocalist Jesse Leach asked. “The one that looks the most human is the creepiest. Fuck that, dude. That’s creepy.” Architects’ Sam Carter, Parkway Drive’s Winston McCall and Beartooth’s Caleb Shomo echoed that sentiment in their own way.

At the end, we got each musician to pick their top choice. The mysterious new percussionist got plenty of praise for his burn victim / Hellraiser cenobite look, as did Jim Root for his new take on an old classic and V-man’s heavily detailed face. But who got the most votes?
