With Halloween right around the corner, why not ditch the classic costumes and go with something terrifying, like an out-of-state home buyer?

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. Watching Missoula locals go all out on their costumes every year is on another level. This year, I thought, why not go with some newly terrifying Missoula-themed costumes? The city has seen some huge changes in the past few years, and a lot of them are not so positive. We might as well have a little fun with it, right? Here are my top 5 scary Missoula-themed Halloween costumes for this year.

1. Landlord: Did anyone else get their rent raised twice during Covid? Remember when you were out of work, and using all of your savings to just get by? Then you got a letter for a rent increase? What kind of Monster could do this, you asked?  Your local landlord or property manager, that's who. Now, not all of them are bad. I've heard many stories about great landlords (mainly privately owned/run property ones), but for the most part, it's been a nightmare.

2. Out Of State Home Buyers: Remember a time when you thought you might be able to afford a home in your own town? Not anymore. With the influx of out-of-state home buyers offering up to 50% more above value for homes in cash, you will have better luck purchasing oceanfront property in Arizona.

3. Bears: Is it just me or has anyone else noticed a huge increase in black bears just rolling into people's homes and neighborhoods like it's a block party? I mean they've always been around but seemed to keep to themselves, or at least scare away easily. Lately, not so much.

4. Missoula/Bitterroot Drivers: I'm putting both down because both sides say the other is terrible. We both talk trash and think the other needs to go back to driver's education. I say you just dress up as a giant 4p or 13 license plate. Trust me, the locals will definitely get it.

5. Tourists: Every single Montanan has some crazy or silly story about a tourist. The really scary thing about them is they are set to just visit for a few weeks, but end up staying and buying into our already scarce real estate market (see #2).  There are even some epic Instagram pages dedicated to them.
