The White Stripes Are Selling ‘Icky Trump’ T-Shirts
A couple of days after making a statement protesting the use of "Seven Nation Army" in an unofficial pro-Donald Trump video, the White Stripes are taking their anti-Trump message one step further. Today, they began accepting pre-orders for a, "Icky Trump" t-shirt that plays off the title of their last album, 2007's Icky Thump.
True to the band's aesthetic, the red shirt features "Icky Trump" in white letters, and on the back is a slight modification of the lyrics to one of the verses. "White Americans? What? / Nothing better to do? / Why don't you kick yourself out? / You're an immigrant, too? / Who's using who? What should we do? / Well, you can't be a pimp / And a prostitute, too"
They're accepting pre-orders for the shirts, which are 100 percent cotton and made by Alternative Apparel, at Jack White's Third Man Records store for $25. They expect to start shipping next Wednesday (Oct. 12), however, there's already a disclaimer saying that there could be delays due to increasing demand.
On Tuesday, Jack and Meg White publicly denounced a video that had been made by a Trump supporter and posted on Twitter. “Regarding the use of ‘Seven Nation Army’ in a Donald Trump campaign video,” they wrote, “the White Stripes would like to unequivocally state that they have nothing whatsoever to do with this video. They are disgusted by this association, and by the illegal use of their song.”
Since learning about the video, the White Stripes have reported the user to Twitter on the grounds of copyright violation. As a result, the tweet is currently being withheld.
