Yellowstone National Park Breaks Visitation Record
Yellowstone National Park officials announced today that the park had beaten its all-time park visitation record.
"When we tallied up all of our numbers through September, we passed over 3.8 million visits to the park this year which is a record for us," Park spokeswoman Julena Campbell said. "Our previous year total was back in 2010 when we had just over 3.6 million, so we still have a few months to go and yet we've already beaten that record."
Campbell said that the visitation record is good news, but it comes with some difficulties too.
"It's a little bit of a double edged sword, we get excited about that and we're happy to hear that this many people are wanting to come to Yellowstone and experience the park," Campbell said. "On the other edge of that, it brings us a lot of impact to both the park and to the visits of other people, in terms of parking lots, standing in line and that sort of thing."
The park attracted more visitors than last year during every single month, peaking with nearly 981,000 in July. Park attendance was up 15 percent over 2014.
