Compared to today, the 1960s were a weird time.
Things that just wouldn't fly today were commonplace back then. Take, for instance, this TV commercial for both a Ford Mustang AND a Post cereal called Rice Krinkles.
With yesterday's game being such an ass whoopin, I found myself enjoying the commercials more than the game. Even though their were a ton of good commercials on yesterday, I narrowed it down to my three favorite, and here is why.
I’ve never seen a commercial that perfectly describes parenthood like this one does. In a short 60 seconds it manages to capture the essence of daily life for parents. Somehow it manages to embody the joys, frustrations, sleeplessness, clutter, pain, dog-food eating and chaos that is parenting.
I’m kind of choosy when it comes to the sports I watch. I don’t like to waste my time watching endless hours of sports. I would much rather play them than watch. Even though I don’t watch a ton of sports, I still know a few famous, or once famous players. Recently Foot Locker created an ad that featured some once famous athletes that I found to be pretty funny.
Much like Rob Zombie, I am a fan of the old school horror flicks. Especialy the ones out of the 60's and 70's. I recently discovered an old KFC commercial from the 60's, that will have Colonel Sanders haunting my dreams.
As I have confessed to you before, I am not a big football fan. There are many aspects of the game that I don’t understand, that don’t make sense to me, or that just plain bore me. I don’t understand why they stop the clock after some plays, but not after others. How does a game that has four 15 minute quarters last for three hours on average?
There was only one winner this past Sunday. It looked like the game was going to be a blow out for the Baltimore Ravens, that is until the power went out. The Ravens seemed to fall asleep when the stadium went dark.
Steve Fullerton at our sister station KLYQ put together this list. What commercials do you think we should add?
The Super Bowl is coming up on Sunday (and part of Saturday and Monday, too, if I read my TV schedule right).
As ALWAYS, we let our minds wander back over the memorable ads that often were better than the game itself...
On hiatus since Nicole Scherzinger left the group to pursue a solo career, the Pussycat Dolls haven’t released a new album since 2008, but a revamped version of the pop girl group will makes its debut during a GoDaddy Super Bowl commercial.
Super Bowl ads tend to have more longevity than traditional commercials thanks to their large budgets, creative freedom and overall goal to keep you glued to the TV between quarters. Some, however, aren't remembered for the joy they brought but rather for the public outcry they produced.
