Do College Football Fans Want the BCS or a Playoff System? — Survey of the Day
It’s pretty well accepted that the BCS system to determine college football’s national championship is unpopular with the public.
But a new survey from Poll Position shows just how hated the BCS -- which uses a mix of human polls, computer rankings and strength of schedule to determine a one-off national championship game — really is.
The poll asked 1,356 adults if they favor the BCS system for determining a champion or if they prefer a broader playoff. Fifty-five percent of the respondents said they preferred a playoff, while only eight percent picked the current BCS system. Thirty-six percent had no opinion.
Just considering those who did have an opinion, 86 percent want a playoff and 14 percent would stick with the BCS.
LSU and Alabama, SEC rivals who played earlier in the season, will face off in the BCS Championship game on January 9.
